Oh the Joys of Spending

Between D and I, we spent a whole whack of money this weekend.

Dale (not to be confused with D) and I went shopping for audio recording equipment on Saturday. Some of you may be aware that we've been trying to podcast but we've been unhappy with the overall quality of the sound so I bit the bullet and upgraded to some semi-professional recording equipment. I went in looking for a mixer and a couple of microphones and walked away with a 'field' recorder. The Zoom H4 does everything I need it to (and has a bunch more features that I have no need for) but it was the right price and is flexible enough to meet all of my needs. I went home and tested it right away with D, my parents, the tv, the wind, rustling paper, the washer - essentially, anything I could think of. Bottom line - it's pretty damned good and I can't believe the great quality of the built-in microphones. AWESOME. Can't wait to record our next show!

If that spending wasn't enough, D and I went looking for a blender yesterday but the story starts 2 weekends ago when D and I bought some chocolate smoothie mixes at Costco. D tried to make a smoothie on Saturday with our current blender and he said it was crap. The ice didn't blend properly and it was just a big mess (what do you expect from a $30 mixer?). So yesterday, he decides we need to go looking for a blender. We spend most of the day at a variety of different home appliance stores (with a short 3 hour break in the middle for my dentists appointment) and after much looking and debating, we spend $100 on a Cuisinart, 1500W pulse power blender. 1500W. Take it in people. That's insane. The average blender is between 150 and 450W. WOW. We made smoothies again last night. This thing crushes ice like a mofo. I can't wait to make margaritas! Goes to show that sometimes you DO get what you pay for.

It's Monday, I'm tired but there are only 4 working days this week so I can't really complain. I'm heading off back to work. I have a bunch of filing to do that's left over from Friday. Have I ever mentioned how much I HATE filing?
