I had never heard of Perth, Ontario until earlier this week when, during a lively discussion (is there any other type?) at our Monthly Vancouver Bookcrossing meeting one of the ladies mentioned a kilt run. Kilt run? I had to check this out.
To celebrate their namesake, the city of Perth hosts an annual 5 mile run. But this isn’t your regular type of run. Oh no. You see in Perth, to participate in the run, you have to wear a kilt. Their goal is to set the world record for most runners wearing a kilt. This year's Perth’s World Record Kilt Run took place on June 26th and saw 1,210 runners turn up in kilts, a count which I’m assuming has been submitted to Guinness.
If you’re trying to imagine what 1,200 runners in kilts looks like, you don’t have to stretch your imagination too far. Pictures from the event are up and available for viewing at Zoom Photo.

It all started with an email.
Fellow movie writer Kurt sent around an email last week with a link to a You Tube video with the subject line "The Electric Jesus! Tesla is my Main Man!" Being a Tesla fan but not having the time to watch the video, I set it aside for when I had a little extra time which happened to be last nigh. All I can say is, you've got to see this for yourself. It's called "Drunk History: Nikola Tesla" and it stars Crispin Glover as Edison and Crispin Glover as Edison. I could do without the clips of the drunk guy (warning: there's vulgarity and a moment when he pukes on camera (at 5:02 for 2 or 3 seconds) but otherwise, this is sheer genius.
A little digging has uncovered a whole series of these videos featuring a whole bunch of other comedic stars including Jack Black and Danny McBride. You can check out all of the videos on their You Tube Channel.

OK. Maybe.
I'm not a huge Weird Al fan but when Miss604 mentioned that Al's "White & Nerdy" had just come up in shuffle, I thought I'd check out the tune. I don't find it particularly hysterical though it is fairly amusing. Most of the references are a little boring but I love the bit at the 2:30 mark. I giggled uncontrollably at seeing that.
So here's your pseudo Friday snicker:
This may explain a few things...

If you missed it - I'm not quite sure how that could have happened considering the video was everywhere - be sure to check out part 1 of my awesome three part Video Tour of the "New Moon" filming locations; a little project I took part in for Movie Set.
In this episode, we get a look at the theatres and the location where the break-up scene was filmed. And because I'm so awesome, you also get my very, very bad Kristen Stewart impersenation. As I explained to Dana (aka Robsessed83), at least I had a moment with Edward. And it was captured on film. Enjoy.

Yoshi (AKA Jess), one of the lovely ladies at What the Forks?! Had an accident the other day. To help her feel better, I made this funny little thing but can't figure out where the link is (they're only giving me an embed code) so I thought I'd post it here.
This one's for you girl...the only way I know how to make things better: making people laugh (usually in the wackiest of ways).
Fun eh? Yeah. I thought so.
For the rest of you, now that you've enjoyed my sillyness, do me a favour and *really* help Yoshi feel better by VOTING for her for TwiCon Correspondent. She's made it into the top 5 but needs your vote to take home the prize. So go HERE and vote for Jessica Gueco. Vote often!

I need this and I'm thinking you might appreciate it too. First heard on the Larry & Willy Show earlier this week and now discovered on You Tube. Enjoy!

I saw this on Mike Shinoda's site and after a little bit of searching discovered it's from a late 80's movie titled "Teen Witch". Oh, it's bad but oh so funny. Enjoy!

I heard an estimate on the CBC news this morning that by the end of the day today, more than 30 million people will have seen Susan Boyle's amazing performance on Britain's Got Talent. And if you haven't, have you been under a rock or something? Just in case, check it out.
Now that you're back, I want to share another video, one from last year's show which puts a smile on my face every single time I see it. On the worst of days, this is what makes me feel a little better. Who would have thought?
I hope it makes your day a little brighter. Enjoy.

It's not like LOL Cats but it definitely has something going for it.
In preparation for our Oscar live blog yesterday (if you missed the action, check out the crowd reaction here) I was looking around the web for a picture that would adequately capture the feeling of "Upset!" when a favourite was overlooked (ie. Penn over Rourke). In my browsings through the much despised Google Image Viewer, I stumbled on this funny graphic on the webpage for the South Vancouver Island Classics' Soccer Association. Looks like the picture is a placeholder for potential advertising but something about it had me cracking up and whenever I posted it (and I did, a few times even out of context), I couldn't stop laughing; to the point where I was crying because I was laughing so hard.

I heart the bunnies. And here they are performing "Twilight" in the usual style; in 30 seconds.
Unfortunately, the folks at Starz don't believe in sharing so you have to head over there to check out the goodness, at least until someone adds it to YouTube.
UPDATE: It keeps getting added and deleted. Here's the most recent upload.

I've mentioned in the past how much I like Gordon Ramsay and this is right up there on the list of best parodies I've seen all year.
It's called "Little Ramsay" and they're a series of commercials for Caterer.com which is a job search board for careers in hospitality. These aren't exactly winning commercials (mostly because I didn't know what the heck they were advertising until the end) but they're certainly memorable and completely hysterical.

Gotta give it up for Canadian boy Alex Trebek. He's been hosting Jeopardy! since 1984 and I can't imagine the show without him plus, it's always a little weird seeing him outside of Jeopardy! It's like something's missing...
Mike Shinoda posted this hysterical video of Trebek apparently drunk. Not sure where it came from but it's priceless. And warning: there's a bit of swearing involved.

I can appreciate the comedy in this (though I'm almost positive that haters will also laugh uncontrollably).
A friend sent me a link to Vulture’s "Complete Field Guide to the Facial Expressions of Keanu Reeves" and it's pretty priceless.
Hard to admit but there are a few in there that don't look familiar at all which means there are still a few films out there that I've yet to catch up on while I know, for a fact, that there are a few others in there that I do recognize but wish I didn't.
And while there, also be sure to check out "28 Reasons That ‘Twilight’ the Movie Is Better Than ‘Twilight’ the Book". It's pretty much bang on.

Oh dear. I'm going on a limb to assume that this is a take on some music video but considering I watch everything on-line and pop isn't really "my thing", I can't begin to guess what video this is based on. However, I do know that this cements Andy Samberg as one of my favourite funny people.
I was laughing so hard I had to cover my mouth. And here is the GREATNESS of "Jizz In My Pants":

Great advice from Goodyear...LOL

Completely hysterical. I particularly love the post end title note about Jacob. Very funny and well worthy of your 3 minutes.
Found via the good folks at Twilighters Anonymous.

So it’s not another “Twilight” post, I’m slowly weaning myself away from that, but it’s something very fun.
Saw this very funny video on John Bollwitt’s blog. It’s very funny and hubby is going to laugh pretty hard when he sees it…

This morning Twitter was abuzz with talk of Macy's Parade Rickrolled. I couldn’t figure out what everyone was talking about until I saw the video below. If you don’t know what rickrolling is, basically it boils down to posting a link that appears to go to something else but ends up pointing you to the Rick Astley song “Never Gonna Give You Up” which was a big hit in the late 80’s. The video is pretty funny. So funny that I cried a little.
Happy Thanksgiving to my American friends. Hope you make it through today's food coma and tomorrow's shopping crazyness!

Over at Row Three, we sometimes post additional thoughts on a movie but frankly, I’m not sure the guys care much for Twilight, not to mention that my added thoughts have as much to do with the novel than with the film, so I thought I’d post a few additional ramblings here. That’s what personal blogs are for right?
After seeing one of the opening night screenings on Thursday, I decided I needed to re-read the books before a second visit to the theatre (I always knew there would be more than one). For those that argue that Bookcrossing stops individuals from buying books, here’s an example of the opposite: I Bookcrossed my books to share the goodness and, over the weekend, had to re-buy copies for my personal collection. I devoured, yet again, the story of Bella and Edward and reading it for a second time, a few things came up that I don’t recall picking up the first time around.
- The writing isn’t spectacular but the story is well crafted – how many times did I roll my eyes at the term “crooked smile”? What is that exactly? The pages of endless descriptions of Edward’s beauty started to run together and Bella came across as a bit more needy than I remember from my original read.
- I caught a tinge of the Meyers’ religious inclination. It wasn’t as apparent the first time around but a few references certainly suggest something is going on (lion and lamb, opening inscription). I even heard and contemplated the fact that there’s no sex in the story as a religious inclination but regardless of the reason for the omission, it makes for great page turner. It’s like the old movies when the build-up ended in a kiss – a passionate kiss but just a kiss. The build-up is key; if that doesn’t work, there goes your story.
- As for the vampires… well, I’m not sure what to make of that. Perhaps the same thing that Anne Rice once made about why her characters are vampires: it gave her an opportunity to explore other aspects of humanity.
- Re-reading this with the idea of first love in the back of my mind was painful. I must have tuned it out the first time but this time around, I couldn’t get past it. It brought back some less than pleasant memories. Unfortunately, my one sided romance didn’t end nearly as well.
As for the second time to the theatre, a few interesting notes: (there are some very mild spoilers but none the less, be warned, ***SPOILERS AHEAD***)
- The bad makeup wasn’t nearly as distracting as it was the first time around. Still distracting but mostly something easily overlooked.
- Writer Melissa Rosenberg deserves some serious credit for managing to shorten the book into a fairly cohesive story while leaving out huge chunks of information. Some of the omissions will make for interesting juggling for Part 2 but overall, very good. Also worth noting that between the language that comes out of the characters is much more natural in the film than in the novel. Kudos.
- The special effects were even more laughable (and therefore painful) the second time around. Oh yeah, they’re THAT bad. Here’s hoping they do something about that for the next one.
- Yeah, there’s chemistry. Lots and lots of chemistry. Pattinson and Stewart lay it on thick but wow does it work. The closing shot…OK. Enough of that.
This, this THING has taken over. I’ve passed the point of mildly obsessed to completely consumed. I feel a bit guilty that something a little more “intelligent” and less "guilty pleasure" didn’t snag my attention but there’s something particularly interesting about this. I expect a lot of what's currently floating around in my head will come out a little more in the upcoming podcast which will help me move away from the constant ideas that pop into my head and once December kicks in, other things will catch my attention but for now, it’s all about this cultural phenomenon. I’m almost interested enough to put together an essay on the topic. What for? I don’t know but I am tempted.
I’d promise there won’t be more but frankly, I’m afraid this isn’t going anywhere any time soon.
