Surreal Beauty

No words necessary. The images speak for themselves.

Cheap Entertainment

Street performers are not exactly a new thing in Vancouver. Walk around town for any amount of time and you're bound to bump into one or two. Skytrain stations have buskers and you can often spot them along the Granville Entertainment District (though they're not exclusively limited to this area) but one of my favourites is the juggler who I usually spot at Granville Island. It's been a while since I've seen him and can't quite remember what he looks like but I came upon this performer yesterday while wandering the streets in the middle of the afternoon.

He had quite a crowd of both young and old gathered on the corner of Granville and Robson. I'd missed half of the show but managed to watch a few tricks. The first is this flying plane trick which, to be honest, is only memorable for how it ends.

This next trick, the last in his show, is pretty spectacular. I expect part of the reason he's so popular is his banter with the crowd but it also takes a special kind of person to put his/her life in the hands of perfect strangers. It's hard to tell but that pole? It's being held up by four guys that the performer pulled from the crowd.

I thought it was well worth my $5.

Keanu Reeves is....Immortal?

This may explain a few things...

Do you want to see a girl (I did) hyperventilate? Show her this:

I fully admit to being a "Twilight" fangirl and this trailer certainly has a few problem but dude. DUDE! It made me beyond excited!

What a great way to start the weekend!

It's Nice To Have You Back Alex

It's been a while and his new TV show is still a few weeks away (as is the film) but here's a little something to tide us over...

Kuroshio Sea

Hubby watches a lot of YouTube videos and over the weekend he was watching this video. I wasn't sure what he was up to but loved the song so I took a peek to notice him watching this breathtaking video. Called the Kuroshio Sea, this video was taken at Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium in Japan which boasts the world's second larges aquarium holding 1,981,290 gallons of water and, as you can see from the video, a huge variety of fish (including sharks!).

Mesmerized by the video and in awe of the size, I did a little reading and discovered that the world's largest aquarium is the Georgia Aquarium in Atlanta, Georgia. It opened in 2005 and it's main aquarium holds 8.1 million US gallons of water.

I searched around and couldn't find a video quite as majestic as the tone above but this one gives you an idea of Georgia's main tank. Wow.

Monday's Suck

Or at least this Monday does. I was not feeling all that well this morning and seriously considered staying home. But then I started thinking of how hot and uncomfortable it would be at home during this week of record breaking weather and I opted to head into the office. I barely made it but arrived with a killer migraine that even had my ears hurting and I swear I was in a cold sweat. It was uncomfortable and painful for until about 10AM when the drugs started kicking in. I'm feeling much better now but still now 100%. Here's hoping I'm feeling a bit better for the movie tonight.

Lots to report on from the weekend but the pictures are still on my camera so that report will be coming tomorrow but I do have some fun stuff to share. The first is part 3 of the "New Moon" video set tour. Yes, this is the one where I have a total fangirl moment but thankfully, it's not quite as bad as I thought it might be. Thanks again to the guys at Movie Set for making the videos possible. They were great fun.

As a bonus, I also get a jab in at Eric. He deserved it.

As a little bonus, I noticed a video making the rounds this morning but because it was on MTV, it was only available to our American friends. Big kudos to twilightbritneyfan1 for making this available for the rest of us. I've never been much of a Jennifer Love Hewitt fan but I admit that seeing this video made me like her a tiny bit more. Plus, I don't feel like such a dolt.

A Get Well Soon Wish AND A Vote Request!

Yoshi (AKA Jess), one of the lovely ladies at What the Forks?! Had an accident the other day. To help her feel better, I made this funny little thing but can't figure out where the link is (they're only giving me an embed code) so I thought I'd post it here.

This one's for you girl...the only way I know how to make things better: making people laugh (usually in the wackiest of ways).

Fun eh? Yeah. I thought so.

For the rest of you, now that you've enjoyed my sillyness, do me a favour and *really* help Yoshi feel better by VOTING for her for TwiCon Correspondent. She's made it into the top 5 but needs your vote to take home the prize. So go HERE and vote for Jessica Gueco. Vote often!

Youth Relived. Now What?

Sis and I have come to the conclusion that we need to go to more shows. At least once a month. We're not teens anymore but going to shows together is always awesome fun, we always have an adventure and I always leave with a spring in my step that lasts for a few days. It's a great feeling and one I'd love to experience more often.

All ages, no alcohol show. The no alcohol bit had a few people upset but we went with the flow. We stopped for dinner beforehand and missed the first band but there was no way I was going to miss Shiny Toy Guns. After discovering that the stand seating was nearly empty, we found a comfy spot and settled in. STG were good but something I noticed live that hadn't occurred to me listening to the album is that they're all all over the place when it comes to their sound (a little pop, a little punk, a bit of electronica). They didn't play "Major Tom" but "Le Disko" really got the crowd going.

The Offspring were, as per the last time I saw them way back in the day, awesome. Their line-up smartly consisted of one new song/one old and you could tell the crowd on the floor was of the younger persuasion as they seemed to recognize all the new songs and not the old. I haven't listened to much of the band since the release of "Americana" but I still enjoyed myself and I'm thinking I need to pick-up some of the newer stuff for a listen. Sadly, they didn't play anything from "Ignition" - that made me a tiny bit sad.

I did get to play with my little camera, taking some video of the show - video which would have been much better if we were closer. It's also a little shaky - I need a guerrilla pod - badly.

The first video is an acoustic version of "Gone Away":

And the classic "Come Out and Play". The camera's audio recorder really doesn't like the bass:

It was an awesome night and yes, we'll be doing it again. I'm hoping next time it's at The Commodore and if it's not, we're springing for floor tickets. I was pining to jump into that pit.

Twilight - Bunny Style

I heart the bunnies. And here they are performing "Twilight" in the usual style; in 30 seconds.

Unfortunately, the folks at Starz don't believe in sharing so you have to head over there to check out the goodness, at least until someone adds it to YouTube.

UPDATE: It keeps getting added and deleted. Here's the most recent upload.

The Great Escape

So how do you escape the paparazzi? If you're Taylor Momsen (Little J from "Gossip Girl"), you run away parkour style.

The folks at Just Jared speculate that this is actually a commercial for Nike and I can't help but agree with them still, it's a whole lot of fun (not to mention genius and fitting with the show's fanbase).

Check it:

Little Gordon

I've mentioned in the past how much I like Gordon Ramsay and this is right up there on the list of best parodies I've seen all year.

It's called "Little Ramsay" and they're a series of commercials for Caterer.com which is a job search board for careers in hospitality. These aren't exactly winning commercials (mostly because I didn't know what the heck they were advertising until the end) but they're certainly memorable and completely hysterical.

Alex Trebek Has a Few Too Many

Gotta give it up for Canadian boy Alex Trebek. He's been hosting Jeopardy! since 1984 and I can't imagine the show without him plus, it's always a little weird seeing him outside of Jeopardy! It's like something's missing...

Mike Shinoda posted this hysterical video of Trebek apparently drunk. Not sure where it came from but it's priceless. And warning: there's a bit of swearing involved.

Blushing Keanu

Yes, it's true. Even the cool and collected Keanu can blush when complimented. This video is a few years old but I stumbled on it while searching for videos from the promotional tour for "The Day the Earth Stood Still" which opens on Friday.

I'm dedicating this video to the fans that feared that Keanu had been dethroned. All I said was that he had competition - and that's still the case.

Try not to "Jizz In Your Pants" While Watching This

Oh dear. I'm going on a limb to assume that this is a take on some music video but considering I watch everything on-line and pop isn't really "my thing", I can't begin to guess what video this is based on. However, I do know that this cements Andy Samberg as one of my favourite funny people.

I was laughing so hard I had to cover my mouth. And here is the GREATNESS of "Jizz In My Pants":

Twilight: The Puppet Saga

Completely hysterical. I particularly love the post end title note about Jacob. Very funny and well worthy of your 3 minutes.

Happy Thanksgiving - Rick Ashley Style

This morning Twitter was abuzz with talk of Macy's Parade Rickrolled. I couldn’t figure out what everyone was talking about until I saw the video below. If you don’t know what rickrolling is, basically it boils down to posting a link that appears to go to something else but ends up pointing you to the Rick Astley song “Never Gonna Give You Up” which was a big hit in the late 80’s. The video is pretty funny. So funny that I cried a little.

Happy Thanksgiving to my American friends. Hope you make it through today's food coma and tomorrow's shopping crazyness!

Robert Pattinson Talks Twilight

I dont' make a point to avoid them but for the most part, I don't watch too many interviews with actors/directors before films come out but I was sent a link to an interview with Robert Pattinson (who plays Edward in Twilight) and I did watch/listen to it.

It's a very good interview and I'm really impressed with the insight Pattinson gives into the character and how he plays it. I'm still not sure, as the interviewer asks, if he doesn't completely look silly in the film (vampires always tend to look a bit silly) but I am impressed by the interview.

The Silence Before...

It's 7:15AM. I'm up, showered and ready to go. We're leaving shortly. Meeting the group going down tonight at White Spot for some breakfast and chat before the trek to the border. I hope to go we leave early, I have a feeling it'll be a long line-up.

Thankfully, this time I'm prepared. The new in-dash stereo Hubby put in plays DVD's. I packed 4 DVD's (approximately 8 hours of goodness) for the possible border line-up.

Before starting to type this, I felt like I needed some inspiration. I recently saw The Silence Before Bach and though the film itself was interesting if a little on the artsy side, one scene took my breath away and lucky for me, it's on YouTube. I've been listening to this on repeat for a few days whenever I need a pick-me-up.

Time to go. I'll be back tonight with, I assume, lots of photos! :)

Follow the Cheese!

The action in the UK. Fitting to have the Ambulance up front and center.
Picture care of Nicolas Masse on Flickr.

One of the oddest of competitions is coming to BC this weekend.
The cheese rolling seems to have started in Gloucestershire, UK and it's now making it's way across the ocean and North America to end up at Whistler.
It's an interesting concept: a cheese comes rolling down a hill and the crowd comes tumbling after it in an effort to get to it before everyone else. As you can possibly imagine, it makes for some hysterical entertainment. All the fun starts Saturday, August 16th at noon. The actual rolling starts at 1PM at the base of Blackcomb Mountain. There's apparently a number of heats (for men and women) and the winners will take home some lift passes along with the 11lb cheese they chased down the hill.
If I was in town this weekend, I'd certainly be moaning to make a trip to Whistler. If you're looking for more info on where to watch or how to join in the fun by participating, be sure to check out the official website. I hope this is a huge success and that they keep it up for more than a year. I'm still getting over the disappointment that Flugtag never came back. And here we'd designed our entry and everything...
And what better way to get excited than by seeing the event in action. Check out this video from this year's event in, where else, Gloucestershire:
